Chunghwa Telecom tops among telecom operators in profits

Taipei, Oct. 11 (CNA) Chunghwa Telecom Co., the largest telecommunication service provider in Taiwan, has recorded an earnings per share (EPS) of NT$4.75 for the first nine months of the year, higher than any of its competitors and up 24.7 percent from the NT$3.81 in the same period of 2010, according to figures released Tuesday.
The EPS was higher than the NT$3.48 reported by Taiwan Mobile Co. (TWM), the second-largest telecom service provider in Taiwan, and the NT$1.98 posted by Far Eastone Telecommunications Co.
The country's three leading telecommunication service providers all reported their revenue and profits results for September that day, with Chunghwa Telecom reporting unconsolidated revenue of NT$15.75 billion (US$519 million), representing a year-on-year decline of 1.3 percent.
Chunghwa Telecom reported an operational income of NT$4.07 billion for the month, representing a year-on-year drop of 2.8 percent. Its net income reached NT$3.81 billion, up 7.3 percent from the same month of last year.
The accumulated January-September unconsolidated revenue amounted to NT$144.57 billion, recording a year-on-year growth of 4.3 percent, the company said.
Chunghwa Telecom did not release figures concerning its consolidated revenues.
According to TWM, its September consolidated revenues reached NT$7.34 billion, while the Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) amounted to NT$2.62 billion, with an operating income of NT$1.8 billion and a net income of NT$1.38 billion.
For the first nine months, TWM reported consolidated revenues of NT$57.93 billion, an EBITDA of NT$20.45 billion, an operating income of NT$13.36 billion and a net income of NT$10.16 billion.
Far Eastone, meanwhile, reported consolidated revenues of NT$6.44 billion for September, with an EBITDA of NT$2 billion and a net income of NT$808 million.
