Taipei, Oct. 12 (CNA)
Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC Corp. launched two handsets running Microsoft's latest mobile operating system Mango, Wednesday in Taiwan.
The HTC Titan and HTC Radar, running Windows Mango also known as Windows Phone 7.5, both have value-added services provided by local telecom giant Chunghwa Telecom.
HTC's Asia-Pacific region vice president of HTC North Asia said the high-end Titan made its Asian debut in Taiwan, while the mid-range Radar has already been launched in the Hong Kong market where it had been well received.
Tong forecast strong growth in the sales of Windows Mango handsets in the fourth quarter on higher demand on the back of the consumer trade show "IT Month", scheduled to open in early December in Taipei.
HTC had seen better-than-expected sales of its Windows powered handsets since the first quarter of 2010, he said, despite Microsoft's uphill battle in a handset market heavily dominated by Google's Android and Apple's iOS-powered smartphones.
Tong said HTC is aiming to claim the top selling brand title in the North Asian regions of Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, and South Korea within three years.
However, it is hard to gain dominance in the market as South Korea is a "unique" competitor, he conceded. (By Stacey Wu and Ann Chen) enditem
